No.33 **

Valentine Tregashian considers...

Instrumentation: A Cantata for: 16 Voice SATB Choir, String Quintet, Brass Quintet, Harp, Flute, Clarinet, Three Percussionists, and Organ
Duration: 45 minutes
First performance: ASKO Ensemble, Amsterdam, 2001

Originally written for Dutch organist Jan Hage with financial support from the Fund for the Creation of new Music. It was first performed by the ASKO ensemble in the Westerkerk in Amsterdam in 2001.

"For some reason the artist Valentine Tregashian has lost the will to communicate in any way other than through music. Any question
put to the artist will receive a piece of music as a reply.

Sometimes mischievous village children ask the artist little
questions just to hear the strange musical answers.

Sometimes composers ask the kind of questions that have
no answers and write down what they hear."

The piece is comprised of eight movements:

I. Valentine Tregashian considers...eternity.
II. Valentine Tregashian considers...the elements.
III. Valentine Tregashian considers...God.
IV. Valentine Tregashian considers...innocence
V. Valentine Tregashian remembers...
VI. Valentine Tregashian reconsiders...
VII. Valentine Tregashian ...sings.
VIII. Pastorale Finale
